Force Uninstall Programs – Windows 10

In this post, we will be dealing with force uninstalling programs in Windows 10 especially in cases when we get stuck trying to uninstall the program in a conventional manner and are unable to do it.

To help you understand better, we have a sample problem. So, here we have a situation where we will try to uninstall Quick Heal total security software and we will try to do it conventionally.

force uninstall

We had already tried to uninstall it conventionally but it did not work. So, we will provide with you with two or three more alternative methods for dealing with such a situation.

So, that things are clearer to you, we will begin by explaining the conventional method.

Let’s get started.

Method 1 (The Conventional Method) – uninstall program windows 10

The conventional method is the most opted for method for the purpose of uninstalling programs in Windows. It is popular due to the ease associated with it and also because most people know it. But even if you don’t, you have nothing to worry about. We’ll tell you how to go about this method.

Uninstall Programs – Windows 10

So, to uninstall the program in Windows 10 with the conventional method, we will have to open the list of programs first.

To go to the list of programs, opt for any of the two following ways:

  1. If you are using Windows 10: Go to the Search toolbar on the bottom of your screen and type ‘Add or Remove Program’. Now click on Add or Remove Program.
  2. If you are a Windows 7 user: Go to the Search toolbar on the bottom of your screen and type ‘Control Panel’. Now, click on it. Once you are in the Control Panel, you need to click on ‘Programs and Features’.

Both ways lead you to the same thing – the list of programs, which looks like the following image.

add or remove program

In windows 10 it also may look like this, just select program and click on uninstall.

Once the list is open, we will try to find the program that is to be uninstalled using the mouse.

As soon as we find it, we will right click on it and click on ‘Uninstall’.

A dialogue box will open after that. Click on ‘Yes’ to initiate the uninstalling process. If it works fine for you then you can leave reading futher steps.

The conventional method did not work out for us.

So, let’s move forward and try some other method.

Something will definitely work out!

Method 2 (Using Uninstall.exe) – uninstall program windows 10

When the conventional method doesn’t work, we can try to go for the second method to uninstall programs in Windows 10.

In this method, we have to try to find out the installation application of the of the program.

Find the Application

Follow the following steps to find the uninstalling application.

Step 1 : Simply right click on the icon of the software that needs to be uninstalled.

Step 2 : Go to its location by clicking on Open File Location. The Installation Directory will open immediately.

Alternative Method:

If you don’t have any icon right in front of you, simply do adhere to the following steps:

Step 1 : Search for it in the search toolbar.

Step 2 : Right click on it.

Step 3 : Click on Open File Location.

Step 4 : A shortcut icon will appear. Right click on the short cut icon.

Step 5 : Click on Open File Location, you will finally reach the desired location – the installation directory.

The same thing can be done with Windows 7 as well.

In the installation directory, you will see a bunch of files.

Now, try to find uninstall.exe application by scrolling through the list using your mouse.

To find it, hit the ‘U’ button on your keyboard because usually the unistallation applications are named as a word generally starting with ‘Unin….’.

In our case, it is UNINST.EXE.

Why .EXE?

We are looking for .EXE file name extension applications because they are executable in Windows. ‘.MSI’ may be the other executable but generally it will be ‘.EXE’. We don’t have to go for other extensions and waste our time finding ‘.DLL’.

In order to double check that we have found the correct application, we can simply hover and leave the cursor on the file and read in the description whether or not the application is the uninstaller. In our case, it says the file is the ‘Quick Heal Un-Installer’.

So now, we will right click on it and click on ‘Run as Administrator’ to uninstall the QuickHeal Program.

But even this didn’t work for us.

Now, we’re going to try another method.

Method 3 ( Using 3rd Party Uninstaller for windows 10 : The IObit Uninstaller) – uninstall program windows 10

In this method, we will try to uninstall our program in Windows 10 with a third-party application (an uninstaller). This uninstaller will help us uninstall the required program.

Install the IObit Uninstaller for Windows 10

For installing the 3rd party uninstaller, follow the following steps:

Step 1 : Open any browser.

Step 2 : Search for a software named as ‘IObit Uninstaller‘ and go to its website. IObit Uninstaller is the best Uninstaller for Windows 10. It works well.

third party uninstaller

On the IObit Uninstaller website, we have the option of free download. As of now, i.e. the year 2020, the free download version is 9.6.0. You can also download the beta version.

Step 3 : Click on ‘Download Now’. The process of download will begin.

Step 4 : After the download, simply open the file. You can do it by making a right click and then clicking on ‘Run as Administrator’. The Installation Wizard will open.

Step 5 : Click on ‘Install’. The installation process will quickly take place.

Step 6 : As soon as the installation process finishes, click on finish. The software will run automatically.

If the software isn’t running automatically then you can type and search the name of the software in your computer using the search toolbar, which is IObit Uninstaller.

Use the Uninstaller to Uninstall Program in Windows 10

Now let’s open the IObit Uninstaller and try to find the software that we want to uninstall. Since we already know the name of software, we can search for the program using the small search toolbar.

You can also find it simply by scrolling and find the program using a mouse.

Once you have found the program to be uninstalled, which is QuickHeal in our case, follow the following steps:

Step 1 : Select the program.

Step 2 : Click on ‘Uninstall’.

Step 3 : Before that, you get the option of creating a restore point if you feel that the program is not safe or maybe you want to recover it later. So you can create a restore point as per your requirements.

Step 4 : The software will also ask you whether you want to automatically remove the residual file. Click check on that.

Step 5 : Now, Click on ‘Uninstall’. The program will get uninstalled.

Another cool benefit of this software is that you can actually select multiple programs at once and start a batch uninstallation process. For that, all you need to do is to simply choose the programs and the software will do the remaining tasks. This software will first uninstall the program and then remove residual files including registries.

Still, it may happen that when you refresh the page and try to find out whether the program has been uninstalled successfully, it may still be present. This exactly what happened with us and it can happen with anyone. Don’t worry.

We will keep trying.

We have another method in store.

Method 4 (Using Safe Mode and 3rd Party Uninstaller) – uninstall program windows 10

For method 4, we will have to start our Windows in Safe Mode and then we’ll have to check whether we are able to uninstall it or not.

So, let’s open the Safe Mode.

Safe Mode for Uninstalling in Windows 10

In order to open or restart your Windows in Safe Mode we need to follow the following steps:

Step 1 : Click on Start menu

Step 2 : Click on Settings.

Step 3 : Click on ‘Update and Security’.

Step 4 : Then, click on ‘Recovery’ on the panel on the left side of the Window.

Step 5 : After that, click on ‘Advanced Startup’.

Step 6 : Then, click on ‘Restart Now’ tab.

But wait!

Before clicking on Restart Now, please make sure that you have saved all your files and belongings so that you would not lose them because as soon as you click on Start Now, the PC will restart.

Step 7 : Now, after you click on restart, a blue screen will appear. Here, you need to click on the ‘Troubleshoot’ option.

Step 8 : Then, click on ‘Advanced option’.

Step 9 : Then, you need to define your startup setting. So, click on ‘Startup Settings’.

Step 10 : Click on Restart.

Step 11 : Now, you will see a bunch of options that are available in the following screen:

Since we are more interested in safe mode, we will press 4.

Now, you can see that the system has been restarted in Safe Mode. As soon as this happens, try to repeat the same process.

Let’s open the IObit Uninstaller software and try to uninstall again.

Now, you will observe that the programs and the residuary files get removed successfully.

In Safe Mode, we can even delete files manually because there are a lot of background processes running that prevent us from delete software generally.

Now, if we check whether the program has been deleted successfully, you will be happy to see that it has been. Now, only shortcuts exist and the actual program has been deleted from your device. Windows allows us delete these shortcuts as per our convenience.

This way, you can delete all unwanted software that you want to and that annoy you a lot while trying to uninstall.
